The Secure Chain is a joint initiative by government and industry to enhance the digital resilience of port logistics chains. A key aspect of this is the safe and reliable release and collection of import containers. Pincodes will be replaced by a system where only digitally authorized parties can collect containers. Starting from 1 October 2024, RWG will automatically verify at the gate whether the TAR-code is correct and whether the EAN number on the visiting driver’s CargoCard matches the EAN number in the pre-notification via Portbase. This ensures that only the authorized person gains access to the terminal. The issuance of EAN numbers is handled by Secure Logistics.
Although RWG will introduce the check on the executing carrier as of 1 October 2024, as part of the process to make container release and collection safer and more reliable, the actual enforcement of this check will take place at a later date.
